Picture of the Day For Roku

On the device

Install the screensaver

Picture of the Day is a Roku screensaver. It does not sit on the home screen as a channel. You find it by searching for Picture of the Day, then set it from the theme menu. The steps below follow Roku’s own guide to changing the screensaver.

Find it

  1. Press Home on the Roku remote.
  2. Open Search and type Picture of the Day.
  3. Open the screensaver result. If Search is not what you see, continue below — the screensaver menu lists the same title among the screensavers you can download.

Install it and set it

Roku’s current path is Settings, then Theme, then Screensavers.

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll and select Settings.
  3. Select Theme to open the Theme menu.
  4. Select Screensavers.
  5. Look through the screensavers you can download, or through My screensavers if it is already on the device. The name to select is Picture of the Day.
  6. Highlight it and press OK to open the description and details.
  7. If it is not installed yet, View screenshots shows a preview. Then choose Get screensaver when it is free, or the buy button when the Streaming Store shows a price.
  8. After it downloads, select Set as screensaver.

If the store asks for a Roku PIN, that PIN belongs to your Roku account. A purchase also needs current payment information on that account. This brochure does not take payment.

How long it waits

Roku, not the screensaver, decides how long the device sits idle before the photographs begin.

  1. Open Settings, then Theme.
  2. Select Screensaver wait time.
  3. Choose how long to wait, or turn the screensaver off.
  4. Press OK to save.

While it is running

The slideshow has no menus. Any key on the remote leaves it. That is how Roku exits a screensaver. To change the interval, the categories, the transition, or the caption, go back to Settings → Theme → Screensavers, highlight Picture of the Day, and open its settings before you preview or set it.

The photographs come from the Picture of the Day feed at pictureoftheday.flyingriver.com. New pictures appear after the screensaver refreshes that feed.
